Melissa Shares Her Story

In 2008 I was 190 pounds, my heaviest. With a 24 gym membership, yo yo diets and diet pills that I tried I never really progressed and would always gain my weight back and then some. With no one to teach or motivate me on the way to a fitness lifestyle, I abandoned it all together and tried yoga for a year. I finally built confidence in myself and decided it was time to step up my game and rejoin a gym, where I’ve struggled for so long.

The help of a friend brought me to No Limit, where a 2 week trial was offered and right away I felt at home. At first, I was hesitant due to the boot camp mentality. I was expecting to walk into something that would consist of yelling and screaming if I didn’t correctly do an exercise or wasn’t running fast enough. I was blown away by the support from fellow boot campers and trainers, to be able to walk in and be greeted by name and also have trainers help you with step by step instructions in a caring manner.

I was hooked on No Limit!

With the build up from No Limit, I thought why not join a half marathon? So, I signed up for the Nike half marathon in 2014. This was a point in my life where things took a dark turn for me in my fitness life, with a few weeks to go on my very first marathon I had injured my foot and I felt that I would have to drop out of it, but with the help of Jeff and the No Limit Family they helped me with exercises and stretches to relieve the pain.

Thanks to them, I competed in my very first half marathon.

Of course things didn’t go that easy when I decided to join another half marathon that took place at Zion. In March, I was involved in a car accident that lead to a back injury, so in a split second my No Limit life was placed on hold along with the half marathon I was training for. I was worried about being on the shelf for 3 to 4 months that I would fall back into my old habits and gain the weight I had worked so hard to lose. Although I couldn’t exercise I decided to join the 8 week challenge by just going along the nutrient plan where I lost 6 lbs and 4% of body fat and gained 1 lb of muscle.

With that said, it was still a struggle not being able to work out and with the constant reminders from my chiropractor, it became more and more apparent I may not be joining No Limit for a long time. As time went on, I got better and better… I was back !!! I jumped back right into No Limit and didn’t miss a beat. Each trainer has their own style, along with my boot campers that just makes the work out so much fun.

I joined another half marathon in Lake Powell a few weeks ago and achieved something I have been working so hard for. As I was approaching the finish line, I thought back on all the struggles I have gone through dating back to 2008 and to where I am now. They say you know who your true friends are when you’re at your lowest, No Limit has been there for me since day one, but I wouldn’t consider them my friends, I consider them my Family.

I am not where I want to be just yet, but it’s about progress, not perfection!
