If you’re looking to get more protein into your diet on a regular basis, one food variation that you can’t overlook is seafood.

Seafood and fish are excellent sources of protein and many also offer up some healthy fats as well, really making them a wise option to choose from if you want to get lean in a hurry.

Let’s look at a few of the top picks to go for when you are making a seafood meal.

First you have salmon.  Salmon is great because it’s a rich source of protein and is also going to include some omega fats as well. Salmon is slightly higher in calories than other white fish or most seafood, so just be sure to adjust your daily intake accordingly.

You should aim to eat this food at least twice per week however as it offers some very strong overall health benefits.

Second, don’t overlook shrimp. Shrimp is virtually fat free, so great for those on a lower calorie diet.

More importantly, it will also provide some iron as well. If you don’t eat a lot of red meat in your daily diet, shrimp can be a good way to ensure that you don’t fall short in this nutrient.

Shrimp can be done in salads, stir-fried, grilled, baked, or eaten cold with cocktail sauce so there’s no reason to ever be bored with this protein source.

Next up are scallops. Scallops are often forgotten about in your diet but these too are a terrific source of protein that you should be eating whenever possible.

Most people do fry scallops in butter however, so you’ll want to avoid doing that. Instead, try steaming or poaching them, or you can even do them on the grill.

This way, they’ll be a very lean source of protein that will encourage an optimal body composition.

Finally, on the fish side of things, go for tilapia.  This is a fish variety that’s very low in mercury content, so will be ideal for those who eat fish regularly.

It’s also fat and carb free, so a perfect pick for those looking to stay lean.

So make sure that you are including plenty of fish and seafood in your regular diet plan.  It can help you meet your protein needs in a hurry and liven up your standard fare.
