The problem of not getting enough sleep has been discussed at length, but is it possible to actually oversleep? The answer is yes, which leads to the next question: Is it dangerous to oversleep? Again, the answer is yes, and here are some reasons why.

There are a number of physical complications from oversleeping, including headaches for those who are prone to them already. It can also make the symptoms of depression worse because of the effect too much sleep has on the brain. Plus, a higher percentage of heart disease and death were recorded in study groups that overslept.

Although the risks of oversleeping are very rare, it is worth noting that health experts believe that a person’s lifestyle is also a big factor. For example, people who are socially withdrawn or depressed tend to oversleep. These same people may have less access to health care, or less of a will to seek it, and that can cause some of the illnesses listed above.

Overall, sleeping can seem tricky because without the right amount, you face dangerous health and emotional issues. Sleeping does have many benefits and is essential but the key is to stay within the 7 to 8 hour range since the problems of oversleeping occur for those who get an average of 9 to 12 hours each night. In addition, remember that there are times that you need more sleep than normal, such as when you are sick, or have recently lost sleep. If you are concerned that you are getting too much sleep or not enough, see your doctor to work out a plan that ensures your rest is consistently between 7 and 8 hours at a time.
