Alma spent years doing what a lot of busy adults do. She worked 50 hours a week at an office, spent most of her day sitting behind a desk, and slowly became less active.
Over time, the weight started to creep up too. Today, Alma is in her 40s and describes herself as being in the best shape of her life.
She’s been training consistently at No Limit Personal Training in Placentia for six years, has completed her first 10K and half marathon, and has made exercise part of her life rather than something she struggles to fit into it.
From 50 Hours a Week Behind a Desk to an Active Life
Before joining No Limit, Alma spent most of her workweek sitting. Between long hours at the office and not paying much attention to what she was eating, her lifestyle had gradually become more sedentary. There wasn’t one dramatic moment that changed everything. She simply reached a point where she wanted something different for herself.
Once Alma began training consistently, exercise stopped being something she did occasionally and became part of her normal routine. Six years later, it still is.
Having a Coach Who Believed She Could Do More
A big part of Alma’s experience has been her relationship with her trainer, Lisa. Alma describes Lisa as supportive, but also willing to push her outside her comfort zone.
That combination mattered. Instead of only doing what Alma already knew she could do, Lisa encouraged her to try things she hadn’t considered possible. One of those things was running.
Alma had never considered herself a runner. Then Lisa encouraged her to give it a try. What happened next surprised even Alma. In less than two months, she completed her first 10K and her first half marathon. For someone who had spent years working long hours behind a desk, accomplishing something like that wasn’t something she expected from herself.
Especially in her 40s. But that’s also what made it so meaningful. She discovered she was capable of more than she thought.
The Best Shape of Her Life in Her 40s
Today, Alma says she’s in the best shape of her life. But the changes go beyond what she can do physically. She feels better. She’s in a better mood.
And even her husband notices the difference.
Her motivation now is bigger than completing another race or reaching a number on the scale. Alma wants to continue becoming a better version of herself for her husband, her family, and herself. Training has become part of how she does that.
One of the biggest lessons from Alma’s story isn’t that everyone needs to run a half marathon. It’s what can happen when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone. On our own, most of us naturally gravitate toward what we already know we can do. A good coach can see when you’re ready for a little more.
For Alma, that meant going from a sedentary lifestyle to strength training consistently and eventually accomplishing something she never imagined herself doing. The goal wasn’t to become a runner. The goal was to become stronger, healthier, and more capable. Running a half marathon became evidence of just how far she had come.
It’s Not Too Late to Become Stronger
Being in your 40s doesn’t mean your strongest years have to be behind you. Alma spent years sitting behind a desk before making consistent training part of her life. Now she describes this version of herself as the fittest she’s ever been. And after six years, this isn’t a short-term transformation. It’s simply how she lives now.
If you’ve spent years putting work, family, and everything else ahead of your own fitness, you don’t have to change everything overnight. You just have to start.
