Why You’re Working Out But Not Losing Weight: One Woman’s Story

by

Misty had been training at No Limit Personal Training for three years before she realized something wasn’t adding up. She was getting stronger every week, but her weight wasn’t changing. The missing piece turned out to be nutrition, and once she found it, everything shifted.

For years, Misty worked out consistently without seeing the changes she expected. In her words, “I had been working out, I was getting stronger, but not a whole lot was changing with my weight.” That gap between effort and results took a toll. Misty describes feeling gross, ugly, and weak during that stretch, even while she was showing up and doing the work.

Why Misty Decided To Make A Change

The turning point came through a nutrition class No Limit taught the previous summer. Misty had spent years focused only on training, without realizing nutrition was the piece she was missing. The class taught her how to make better food choices without dieting or starving herself, something she says was the biggest shift in her entire journey.

Misty didn’t expect much from a gym community when she first started. As she puts it, “who goes to a gym and thinks that people are really going to care about you? And you get that here.” That sense of genuine support became part of what kept her coming back, alongside the training itself.

Learning to eat differently, without restriction or extremes, gave Misty’s training the results it had been missing. She also built a consistent routine, training five days a week, early enough to finish before her kids wake up. She credits the people around her just as much as the program itself, saying she has met people and found support she never expected to find at a gym.

The Results Misty Experienced

Four years in, Misty describes herself as healthy, strong, and motivated. She says that when she looks in the mirror now, she sees someone strong and dedicated, someone who cares about herself, a clear shift from how she used to feel. She has three kids, and she wants them to see that it is okay to take care of yourself too.

Misty’s story points to something easy to overlook: consistent training alone may not be enough if nutrition isn’t part of the picture. Her advice, in effect, is not to wait three years to ask the question she eventually asked herself, whether food, not just workouts, might be the missing piece.
