Leah didn’t walk into No Limit Personal Training with a major transformation goal. In May 2015, a couple of girlfriends simply wanted her to come work out with them. She said yes. Ten years later, Leah is still here. But her training has evolved significantly.
After years of group workouts, Leah transitioned into personal training twice a week with her coach, Jeff. That’s when she says she began discovering how strong she actually was and seeing noticeable changes in her body.
Today, Leah describes herself as stronger, fitter, and leaner. And now the experience has come full circle: her daughter Reagan has started personal training with the same coach.
Leah’s fitness journey started about as casually as possible. Her girlfriends were going to the gym and wanted someone to come with them.
So Leah joined them. There wasn’t a dramatic turning point or major goal behind the decision. She simply started showing up.
She enjoyed the workouts, built friendships, and became part of the No Limit community. What began as working out with friends eventually became a ten-year commitment to her health.
Why Leah Moved From Group Fitness to Personal Training
After years of general workouts, Leah eventually wanted something more individualized. She began personal training with Jeff twice a week. That change gave her a different training experience.
Instead of following the same workout as an entire class, her training could focus more specifically on her abilities, goals, strength, and progression. That’s when Leah started discovering something she hadn’t fully realized before:
She was capable of much more. “You are then all of a sudden discovering how much you actually can lift or how much you can actually do,” Leah says.
That discovery became one of the biggest differences between her previous workouts and personal training.
How Personal Training Changed Leah’s Results
As Leah became stronger, she began noticing changes outside of the numbers she was lifting. She describes herself as stronger, fitter, and leaner since making personal training part of her routine.
The difference wasn’t simply working harder. It was having training that allowed her to progressively discover what her body could actually do. Instead of repeating the same weights and exercises indefinitely, personalized coaching gave her an opportunity to continue progressing. That progression is one of the biggest reasons personal training can be valuable even for someone who already exercises consistently.
Personal Training vs. Group Fitness: What’s the Difference?
Group fitness and personal training can both be effective. The biggest difference is the level of individualization.
Group fitness provides structure, coaching, energy, accountability, and community while training alongside other people. Personal training goes deeper.
A coach can adjust exercises, weights, progressions, and programming around the individual rather than around the entire class.
That can be particularly valuable for someone who wants to: Build more strength, improve body composition, work around limitations, Improve exercise technique, progress beyond a plateau, train toward a specific goal
Leah experienced both sides. Group training helped establish the consistency and community she loved. Personal training helped her discover another level of strength and physical progress.
Why Strength Training Becomes Even More Important With Age
Building strength isn’t only about what you can lift today. Maintaining muscle and strength becomes increasingly important as we get older.
Consistent resistance training can help adults maintain muscle mass, physical function, bone health, balance, and the ability to continue doing everyday activities independently. For Leah, getting stronger also changed how she viewed what her body was capable of. Rather than training simply to exercise, she began training to progress. Ten years after first walking through the doors with friends, she’s still finding ways to improve.
One of Leah’s favorite parts of her story didn’t happen to her. It happened to her daughter. After watching her mom make training part of her life for years, Reagan eventually began personal training with Jeff too.
Now Leah gets to watch her daughter go through the same process she experienced herself. Learning proper strength training. Discovering what she’s capable of. Building confidence through physical progress and developing habits that can serve her for years to come.
For Leah, fitness has become more than something she does for herself. It’s something she’s now sharing with the next generation of her family.
Leah’s story is also proof that you don’t need a dramatic reason to begin. She didn’t start with a ten-year plan. She didn’t know she’d eventually transition into personal training.
And she certainly didn’t know that a decade later her daughter would be training with the same coach. She simply started. Then she kept showing up. Over time, those workouts became strength, friendships, better fitness, and eventually something she could share with her daughter.
Sometimes the most important part of a fitness journey isn’t having the perfect plan before you begin. It’s finding the right environment and staying consistent long enough to see where it can take you.

Is personal training better than group fitness? Neither is automatically better for everyone. Group fitness offers structured workouts, coaching, accountability, and community. Personal training provides greater individualization around your goals, abilities, limitations, and progression. Some people, including Leah, benefit from using both at different stages of their fitness journey.
Can personal training help me get stronger than group fitness alone? Personal training can provide more individualized strength programming and progression. Your coach can select exercises, weights, repetitions, and progressions based specifically on your ability and goals, which can be helpful when building strength is a priority.
Is personal training worth it if I already work out? It can be. People who already exercise often use personal training to improve technique, break through plateaus, build more strength, work around limitations, or follow a more individualized program.
Can parents and their children benefit from personal training? Yes, when the training is appropriate for each person’s age, experience, and goals. Leah and her daughter train with the same coach, but each has an individualized training experience.
